A little history: The rise of February 6, 1934. On February 6, 1934, an anti-parliamentary demonstration is organized in Paris in front of the Chamber of Deputies by right-wing groups, associations of war veterans, and far-right leagues to protest against the dismissal of the police prefect Jean Chiappe following the Stavisky affair. The demonstration turns into a riot on the Place de la Concorde, with 14 civilian casualties, 1 death among the police forces, and over 1,000 injured on the same evening.

2 other civilian victims die from their immediate injuries a few days later, and 4 others from the consequences of their injuries, bringing the total number of deaths on February 6, 1934 to 19. The crisis of February 6, 1934 is one of the bloodiest manifestations of the Third Republic since the shooting in Fourmies in 1891.

New violent demonstrations - with new victims on the side of the protesters - take place on February 7, 9, and 12. The police repression results in 30 deaths in total from these demonstrations. The crisis immediately leads to the fall of the second Daladier government and has a profound and lasting influence on French political life.
